Alfredo R. Paloyo is Professor and Discipline Leader (Department Chair) of Economics at the University of Wollongong, Australia, where he also serves as an elected representative on the University Council. His research focuses on the empirical analysis of human capital and inequality, with applications in labor, health, gender, and education economics. He has published widely in leading international journals, including the European Economic Review, Economics of Education Review, and Social Science & Medicine. He is actively engaged in policy-relevant research and academic governance.
Alfredo earned his doctorate in 2011, summa cum laude, from the Ruhr University of Bochum within the framework of the Ruhr Graduate School in Economics in Germany. He holds a European Master in Law and Economics (LL.M., highest distinction), jointly awarded by the Erasmus University of Rotterdam (Netherlands), the University of Hamburg (Germany), and the University of Bologna (Italy). He completed his Bachelor of Science, cum laude, and Master of Arts in Economics at the University of the Philippines School of Economics. Before joining the University of Wollongong, he was a researcher in the Division of Labor Markets, Education, and Population of the RWI – Leibniz Institute for Economic Research in Essen, Germany.
He has given courses at the Ruhr University of Bochum and the University of Paderborn in Germany, and at the University of the Philippines and the De La Salle University in the Philippines. He supervises PhD students at the University of Wollongong and mentors early- and mid-career researchers both in Australia and internationally.
